Sculpting and sailing are two of my passions.
Lucky for me I don’t have to choose.
My desire to sculpt is a constant thirst that must be quenched.
If you ask George Magiet which of the two mediums he works in he likes better, he will not be able to choose. He creates large penny sculptures of animals and decorative objects and beautiful abstract stone sculptures. When you gaze at Sparky’s Sculptures, you feel rhythm and energy flowing through each form. They smile at you and force your smile in return.
George brings life to his art. His pieces exude charisma. After taking courses and workshops with an established sculptor who challenged him to visualize, George continued to experiment with different stones from south african wonderstone to alabaster and then to wood, plexiglass and pennies.
Now, working on his own he draws inspiration from his environment and the flow of the stone. Several of his stone and penny sculptures are for sale at galleries in Sarasota, Florida. He has also exhibited on Long Island, N.Y. He explains, “I chisel away the excess fragments to expose the form hidden within the stone. As I create, I experience the human feelings of challenge, hope, doubt, anger, love and accomplishment. My work is a metaphor for life.”
Years ago he broadened his scope to create penny sculptures of animals and the female body. His animals exhibit a sense of humor and whimsy. His vision for each piece evolves as he shapes. They all have a sense of movement that make you want to touch and admire.
“My subconscious emerges each time I begin a piece. If I touch someone emotionally, I’ve done my job.” When you view Sparky’s Sculptures, you realize that “Beauty is its own excuse for being.”
